Preparing for Your USG Appointment

How you prepare for a USG scan depends on which part of the body is being examined. Our team will share clear instructions when you book your appointment, so there is no confusion on the day of your scan.

For an abdominal ultrasound, you may be asked to fast for a few hours before the scan. For a pelvic or pregnancy ultrasound, you may be asked to drink water and arrive with a full bladder, as this helps get clearer images. Some scans require no special preparation at all.

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose clothing and carrying your doctor's referral, any previous scan reports, and a valid ID when you visit us.

  • Follow the fasting instructions given at the time of booking, if applicable
  • Drink water as advised for pelvic or pregnancy scans to arrive with a full bladder
  • Carry your doctor's prescription and any past scan reports, if available
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to the scan area
  • Reach a few minutes early to complete formalities without rush

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About USG

Everything you need to know before your ultrasound appointment. If your question is not listed here, call us or send a WhatsApp message and our team will get back to you promptly.

Is a USG scan safe?

Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and is considered safe for patients of all ages, including during pregnancy. There are no known harmful effects from a standard diagnostic ultrasound scan.

Do I need a doctor's referral for a USG scan?

In most cases, a referral from a doctor helps our team understand which scan is most appropriate for your condition. If you do not have a referral, please contact us and we will guide you on the best way to proceed.

How long does a USG scan take?

Most ultrasound scans take between 15 and 30 minutes depending on the type of scan and the area being examined. Your appointment time will be confirmed when you book, so you can plan your visit accordingly.

When will I receive my USG report?

Reports are reviewed carefully and shared promptly. Our team will inform you of the expected turnaround time when you book your appointment. In most cases, reports are available within a few hours of the scan.

Can I get a USG scan during pregnancy at Aurelia Diagnostic?

Yes. We offer obstetric (pregnancy) ultrasound scans including dating scans, anomaly scans, and growth scans. Ultrasound is safe for use during pregnancy and is a routine part of antenatal care. Please bring your antenatal records and your gynaecologist's referral if available.

What should I wear for my USG scan?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being scanned. Avoid tight waistbands, belts, or fitted one-piece garments. Two-piece clothing such as a top and trousers or a skirt is ideal for most scans.
